In the early stages of market development, wooden barrels made from the four most common materials were the most prevalent.
Cedar: Among all materials, cedar is relatively low in price. Consequently, cedar foot bath tubs are also quite affordable—available for just a few dozen yuan. The reason for its low price lies in the fact that cedar has a rather loose wood structure, making it more prone to cracking and warping compared to other woods.
Cedarwood: The cedarwood commonly used typically has a growth and development cycle in Sichuan. With over 20 years of experience in content creation, Kashiwa wood—also known as Japanese cypress—is used to make foot-bath tubs that cost more than twice as much as those made from cedar. This higher price reflects the long growth cycle required for this timber species. As a result, Chinese Kashiwa wood is exceptionally hard, highly dense, and boasts a fine, beautiful grain that only improves with age and prolonged use.
Oak barrel Oak barrels are among the more expensive options among various materials, as Chinese oak is essentially imported from abroad—also known as rubberwood. Its main characteristic is that it lacks prominent knots, making it an attractive footstool; however, its lifespan is shorter than that of cedar.
Maintenance
1. From the very first day we purchase a wooden bucket, we consumers should pay close attention to its condition. After the bucket is delivered to your home, you should carefully reinspect it for quality of life: Check whether there are any cracks, examine the thread-finishing technique on the bottom of the bucket, and verify that the iron hoops around the bucket’s rim are securely fastened. Also, make sure that the material of the bucket matches the sample you originally selected. Another important point for consumers to note is that newly purchased wooden buckets often have a strong paint odor. This odor tends to persist for a relatively long period as the paint continues to off-gas. Therefore, during the first few days, be sure to keep the bathroom well ventilated by regularly opening windows to allow fresh air to circulate, thus preventing the house from becoming filled with a pungent smell.
2. Each time, it’s best to empty the bucket of any dirty water and rinse it thoroughly with clean water to keep the bucket clean. This prevents the wood from absorbing wastewater, which could accelerate aging and lead to mold growth.
3. When cleaning, never use hard objects to scrub the surface—instead, simply use a soft, lint-free cloth or a well-developed sponge. Otherwise, you may easily damage the paint film on the surface of the foot bath tub, causing it to turn black and develop mold.
4. After use, never leave any metal objects in the wooden bucket—these can rust and stain the surface of the paint materials, leaving marks that cannot be washed away.
